On the way back to Okinawa, I spotted two islands in the Ryukyu chain from my seat on the plane. I think they are glimpses of Iheya and Izena, the two northern-most islands in Okinawa prefecture (state). Yoron, which we visited back in late July, is in Kagoshima prefecture and was the southernmost point of Japan until we gave Okinawa to Japan in the 1970s.
Seeing other islands reminds me that while other countries are fun for the passport, there is still LOTS to see in Okinawa Prefecture!
