Hail and Farewell en masse

On this Friday evening, we gathered at the Kadena Marina after work for multiple hails and even more farewells.  Summertime is PCS season, or “permanent change of station” season, and this is the time to say good-bye to friends made and to welcome new members and their families.  Given the number of people coming and going, the battalion had a pot-luck at the Marina.

This being summer, it was a bit on the warm side, but everyone agreed it wasn’t too terribly bad.  Everyone tells me that this summer has been mild, so I’ve yet to experience the Okinawa heat and humidity.  I thought we had near perfect picnic weather, and was thankful for an event that was outside and that did not involve getting too dolled up!

Departing members of the battalion were gracious(ly brief) with their parting words, and new arrivals were appropriately brief.  That left more time for eating, laughing, and enjoying the sunset.
