Biofilm

A phone call about an oil spilled caused a bit of a ruckus at one of the golf courses.  This is what the environmentally-conscious golfer (is that possible?!) saw:


The alarm must have been considerable, because 911 responded.  However, the individual played through after making the call, so I guess there are some things that rank higher on a priority list than oil spills?  Had the individual looked more closely before dialing, and perhaps considered the non-stop rain we've been having for over a week now, they might have noticed that what could pass for oil in a glance is really algae:


I got to see this as part of my volunteer work with the environmental office.  The day wasn't a complete waste. We had dessert for lunch at the 19th hole, and got to see some of the large snails that were introduced a while back as a potential food source.  They are generally considered invasives rather than a food source.
